Microsoft’s Multi-Touch Windows 7

Yesterday at D6 Microsoft gave a preview of Windows 7, which has some amazing Multi-touch features. Here is a video

Video: Multi-Touch in Windows 7

While this is pretty cool and builds on top of the Microsoft Surface launch last year, I wonder how this helps the business user in the Work environment. Yes we can flip pages, and move boxes around, but how do we populate spreadsheets and write documents and create powerpoint presentations or send emails.

Essentially, Microsoft is talking about replacing the mouse, but not the keyboard.

90-95% of all email is SPAM!

I just came across a study by Barracuda Networks from Dec 2007 (so I am waaay late on this), which says 90-95% of all emails sent(received) in 2007 was SPAM. This was against 5% in 2001 and 70% in 2004. Here is an excellent article and some links by Matt Assay at CNET.

This leads me to a more intriguing question, which has bothered me right from when I was contacted by my first Nigerian Prince (or was it a British Lottery) asking to help share his inheritance. I think that was back in 2000 or so.

What is the point of SPAM? And who has this enormous time on their hands to write software to create SPAM messages and send them out to millions of people.

Well I am sure to receive some SPAM in response to this post, so I am readying for it.

Thomson Reuters PLC: Internal Policy on Blogging, Skype etc

April 29th, 2008 Sandeep Kaujalgi, Chairman & CEO Posted in Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, Work 2.0 | No Comments »

On Apr 24th, the newly minted Thomson Reuters PLC filed a Form 6-K document with the SEC listing among (many) other things, what they call - “USE OF COMPUTER AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS”

Among special relevance to Collabor and the Work 2.0 platform are the following items:

  • Don’t violate intellectual property laws or compromise our network security by either installing or using unauthorized software, including peer-to-peer (P2P) or other similar types of file sharing applications that allow you to download music, video and/or image files or make Internet-based phone calls.
  • Instant messaging (IM) from your work computer is only permitted if you’re using Thomson Reuters products or as otherwise approved by your IT department or manager.
  • It’s OK to mention Thomson Reuters in a personal blog. However, if you maintain a personal blog, it should not contain or discuss any confidential or nonpublic information about Thomson Reuters, our customers or other people or companies that we do business with. You should not cite or reference customers, employees or business associates without their approval. If your blog mentions Thomson Reuters, it should be clear that any opinions that you express are your own, and not those of Thomson Reuters. Even then, you should be mindful of the Trust Principles in discussing Thomson Reuters or any of its competitors. Further, personal blogs should never be used for internal communications among fellow employees and you should not use a personal blog to air any differences with co-workers, Thomson Reuters or people or companies that we do business with. Some Thomson Reuters businesses may have their own supplemental policies and guidelines on blogging.

We expect more companies to go the Thomson Reuters way.

As you are aware Work 2.0 is a secure enterprise model for online communities and collaboration. Unleash Employee Creativity - Use Work 2.0
