Italian Football Refs banned from Facebook

Here we go again.

In addition to the previously published “bans” and “code of conduct” on social media discussed on this blog here, here and here, Techcrunch has published a piece titled Italian Football Referees Banned From Using Social Media.

In the article and the linked Channel 4 report, Techcrunch goes on to discuss the background, the reasons and the impact of this action.

Once again, this is re-confirmation of why professional organizations and enterprises, while using “social media” like facebook, orkut, etc will still need to work on creating their own networks, where there can be some element of control on the information dissipated.

Look, we are all for free information – but there are some things that some organizations don’t want to be available to the public (for justifiable or unjustifiable reasons) and they should have the option to do what they want. And others should have the option to critic. Its all fair.

You cannot be different by doing what everybody else is doing.
